The City of Perth Band celebrates its 125th anniversary over the weekend of the 1st of April 2023.
The City of Perth Band led a spectacular parade through Murray and Hay Street malls, joined by bands from across Western Australia. The celebration culminated with a mass band performance of 'Waltzing Matilda' and 'Death & Glory' in Forrest Place.
A milestone concert at Perth Town Hall featured the renowned guest euphonium soloist Dr Robert Childs, conducted by Musical Director Major Peter O'Connor. The afternoon highlighted former musical directors Brian Underwood and George Franklin (aged 101), showcasing the band's rich musical legacy.
The concert included the world premiere of Tim Middleton's 'City Fanfare and Celebration', Dr Childs' captivating performances of 'Jeanie with The Light Brown Hair' and 'Grandfather's Clock', a collaborative piece 'Softly as I Leave You' featuring Dr Childs and principal euphonium player Michael Wolter, and a grand finale of 'Highland Cathedral' with the Kalamunda District Pipe Band.
The second half featured a massed band including Canning City, City of Albany, WA Fire and Emergency, Esperance Brass, Leeming Area Community, Mandurah Concert, Melville AFA Brass and Victoria Brass bands.

This beautiful composition draws inspiration from our cherished band song, "Men of Harlech", weaving together past and present in a triumphant musical celebration.
